Two men allegedly involved in the shooting murder of a Sydney drug lord will remain behind bars as they wait to see the evidence against them.
\nThe pair were arrested on Monday, several months after 48-year-old Alen Moradian was shot dead while sitting in his car near the busy Bondi Junction shopping precinct in the city’s eastern suburbs.<\/p>\n
Majok Angelo Deng, 27, and Chom Manut Guam Chom, 28, have both been refused bail on murder charges ahead of another court date on December 18.<\/p>\n
Chom stayed in the cells under Bankstown Local Court despite his lawyer Talal Krayem requesting that he be brought to the dock on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The magistrate cited a busy courtroom and staff shortages when he told Krayem to inform his client of the new date.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors have been ordered to serve a brief of evidence by January 24.<\/p>\n
Deng’s case was mentioned in Liverpool Local Court on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Detectives in September charged the alleged “mastermind” of the shooting, which they believe was motivated by an outstanding $500,000 debt to an organised crime entity.<\/p>\n
The 42-year-old man was arrested at the same time as another man, 31, accused of helping to co-ordinate the brazen daylight attack.<\/p>\n
Both those men have been charged with murder and cannot be named for legal reasons.<\/p>\n
Deng and Chom were allegedly involved in preparing and placing vehicles used in the murder.<\/p>\n
A Porsche and a Holden were found burnt out in Bondi Junction and Zetland shortly after Moradian was shot on June 27.<\/p>\n
Police are yet to charge anyone with pulling the trigger for the fatal shots.<\/p>\n
Moradian, nicknamed “Fathead”, was arrested in 2007 along with his wife Natasha Youkhana and others over what police at the time called one of the largest cocaine and money-laundering rackets in NSW history.<\/p>\n
He was sentenced to 16 years and nine months in jail for drug importation and supply.<\/p>\n
During the trial, the court was told Moradian and Youkhana lived a life of luxury, using drug money to buy property, designer furniture, jewellery, a wedding reception, luxury travel and accommodation.<\/p>\n
An email showed Youkhana urging her husband to be more like “Tony Soprano” for fear their over-the-top lifestyle would result in them being caught.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
